African American Studies Center, a product offered by Oxford University Press, is a reference database devoted to African American history and culture. It consists of over 10,000 full-text articles from several core reference works.
The interface is clean and intuitive. It is easy to navigate between various types of resources available as a result of each search. One shortcoming of the search interface is that it does not provide “did you mean…” suggestions when search terms are misspelled, but simply shows ‘0’ results or (worse yet) a few results retrieved on the same misspelling.
OAASC fulfills the needs of community college-level academic programs in the area of African American studies far better than any broad-based general resource, and the reasonable price makes it an affordable tool for history, political science, ethnic studies, English, and speech coursework
