Films on Demand Preview

Preview by CCL-EAR Committee

Films on Demand, a product offered by Films Media Group (FMG), is a repository of streaming video collections geared toward the higher education market for use in course management systems and other secured online environments.

Two major collections are available. The one titled Master Academic Collection contains four sub-collections: Humanities & Social Science, Business & Economics, Science & Mathematics, and Health & Medicine. The other choice is called Master Career and Technical Education; its sub-collections include: Technical Education, Family & Consumer Sciences, Careers & Job Search, and Guidance & Counseling. The combined total for both products is 6,000 titles or 60, 000 segments. Some 600 videos are added each year. Annual subscriptions are available as separate curriculum-based collections or as a comprehensive master collection; both options include full performance rights and unlimited access to the institution’s faculty, staff, and students.

Due to issues with pricing, inconsistencies in the quality of resolution, sound, and closed-captioning, the reviewers do not recommend a full review of this product at this time.

Thanks for pointing out the deficiencies in this product…especially the captioning problems. Armed with these specifics, we can tweak them at conferences and hope that they take the hint and make improvements.
