ebrary is hosting a luncheon for CCLC librarians at the ALA Annual Conference and invites you and your colleagues to participate. During the session, you will learn how your library can join other CCLC members in using ebrary to expand your electronic holdings. The luncheon also includes an overview and demonstration of ebrary’s new Java-based Reader.

As you may know, CCLC helped ebrary to develop a new subscription database featuring over 18,150 titles specifically selected to meet the needs of community colleges. An overview of the collection is provided below.

NLM is part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and produces such resources as PubMed/MEDLINE and MedlinePlus, an outstanding resource to use when seeking information about health topics or prescription drugs. MedlinePlus includes health information in both English and Spanish. Since these resources are government funded, they are FREE to use on the Internet and require no registration. Through the outreach and training program of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Southwest Region (http://nnlm.gov/psr), several one or two-hour workshops, such as "Introduction to PubMed" are available to your library’s clientele. The goal of the sessions is to increase awareness and knowledge of using the resources through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice activity. Training services are also free of charge. Additional information about available workshops is located on our web page at: http://nnlm.gov/psr/training/classes.html. Two PubMed workshops were recently conducted for faculty and librarians at Shasta College, and the reviews were very positive! If you or faculty at your institution would be interested in hosting workshop sessions, please contact me. I would also be happy to answer any questions you have about our organization or training program.

A group of California library consortia are co-sponsoring a symposium called Digitizing in a Material World on April 19th in San Jose. Supported in part by LSTA funds through the California State Library, this symposium features some of the country's experts on digitization resources. The presenters will provide guidance for library, museum and corporate library staff to plan or enhance their agency's digitization and electronic preservation projects.

The full announcement and registration are available on the Califa site: <http://califa.org/digitizationsymposium/announcement.html> http://califa.org/digitizationsymposium/announcement.php

The price of the workshop is $75 for sponsoring agency members and $100 for non-members.
Since the Community College Library Consortium is one of the sponsors, you can attend at the reduced rate. This conference will be repeated in the South in the fall.

SCELC's annual Vendor Day takes place on Thursday, March 8 at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Loyola Marymount is located 10 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport. As in past years, librarians from all types of California libraries are invited to this event.

Please go to the SCELC web page at
http://scelc.org/meetings/vendorday/2007/, and check out the program for the SCELC Vendor Day 2007.

Also, for non-SCELC librarians, the charge to attend remains at only $10, to help cover the costs of meals, supplies, etc. You can bring your payment check, payable to SCELC, to the Vendor Day registration table or mail it ahead of time to:

All vendors were queried on their compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act which states that ‘inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily’.
(See http://www.section508.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Content&ID=3 )

Not all vendors have supplied a statement regarding their accessibility and not all vendors that have responded are compliant. The CCL-EAR committee also reviews a vendor’s compliance with Section 508 and includes that information in their reviews under the section: Accessibility of Service.

For more on each vendors compliance statement, check out the Additional Information section on the right hand side of each vendor’s page on the consortium web site (http://www.cclibraries.org/).
Subscribe to RSS feed

Welcome to the Community College Library Consortium Blog.
